Has anyone found too much aquarium decor to be an issue where there's so many hiding spots, you never see your fish? Or has anyone found less decor made fish more active and less aggressive for territories?
That's guys water and electric bills gotta be through the roof. I've seen a few of his videos with his diy stuff. I really like his 4500 (I believe) gallon Amazon setup.I have manzanita stumps/branches along with rock work in every tank and the only thing green I grow is algae for the fish that graze. I’ve always wanted a tank aquascaped like this one below but it just looks like uneaten food and detritus would be trapped everywhere? I’ve never done it but that’s just speculation, maybe with enough wave pumps you could steer it? I try very hard to not see any equipment in the display tanks.
I’m not sure if this is the scape you’re talking about? But, from what I’ve seen you don’t have any small or overly shy cichlids.
At work right now, but definitely once I'm home. Can you post some pictures?
I've tried dithers, 8 inch parachromis multifaciatus gets hungry for midnight snacks lmaoI really like the natural look of rock & driftwood in a tank, over the sterile minimalist look.
I think if you add a group of good sized active schooling fish such as Filamentosa Barbs, Spotted Silver Dollers or even Giant Danios, will perk up your Cichlids.
Btw, Every Jack Dempsy I've ever kept enjoyed occupying what ever piece of decor he could squeeze into or swim under. Lol.
Directed towards me? If so, you missed the part where I have to rearrange a few tanks to rearrange these guys appropriately.I realize most people aren´t as anal about combining non-geographically appropriate species as I am.....that said
But I find it difficult to take a tank with Mexican cichlids such as Rocio, of Paraxhromis , combined with species like barbs and danios from Asia seriously especially after spending time in nature with JDs in the Cenotes of Mexico where they are endemic.
Its bad enough seeing New World Cichlid swith invasive Tilapines.
The video below shows JDs in nature, with appropos species.
Below, yellow jacket near the Handuran border of Mexico, with inappropriately invasive Tilapia.
