today i went out and bought an aqueon 500...it moves 500 gph, hence the name...but after i put it in the tank it didnt really feel too significant...so i was wondering if i could up my power head to the next step...700gph?? it will be going on a 29 tall fish only tank, until it gets established and i begin to reef it.

So my question, is 500 just right and im just wanting bigger and badder, or is 700 not out of the question..??

thanks

sorry if i mis-spoke, my filtration is an aquaclear 110---and a tiny sponge in the back,

my post was meant for powerheads and circulation pumps...i have an aqueon 500 at the moment, and was wondering if it was safe to upgrade to an aqueon 700...or if that would be too much...my rationale being that my tank is a 29 high, so the extra flow around the top wont pick up the sand at the bottom

I have two fairly large Marble Vail Angels in one of my tanks. I run maxi-jet 400's on a timer because I was told the Angels don't like a lot of current. Since I have put the heads on a timer the Angels seem to be more active and happier.

it all depends on what you have... Fish only is less significant than if you were to house SPS. Let us know that and we'll be able to answer better.

for now it is going to be fish only, most likely two smaller damsels, until my tank is fully cycled, then i will introduce some corals/inverts..and later an anemone

i would say too much for your anemone because when it moves its just going to get blown away.

so months later, i only have the one 500 still, i have an ocel-clown, the same damsels... a blood and peppermint shrimp, 6 blue hermits, and 6 red hermits...a BTA, and several expanding polyps. 3 colonies of zoos, some xenia, a duncan, yellow bam bam...and a leather...
