Filtration....

Done lots of reading but I have never found any numbers...

I have a180 with a 2080, a 2217, and 2 moving beds.

I want to remove the moving beds but not sure if I can.

What is the minimum bio filtration needed...

My 2080 is full of matrix and my 2217 is full of sponges...

Looking for numbers and the phrase "it is subjective"is banned...

The tank is a heavily stocked 6x2x2.

Howdy,

From my own experience, a 2080 is only good if your 6ft tank is heavily stocked with guppies. Try it on a 75 gal and you'll be happy. I run a 2217 on my 40 gal, which is a good size for it.

Long story short, if you keep /\/\onsters, these two alone won't do for your tank.

Hey, I read the eheim site is said the filter is good for a 1200l tank, mine it's only 600, also the 2217 it's rated for a 600l tank.

I thought that would have been enough? Hence why i was going to remove the moving bed filters.

What is your experience with the 2080?

I'm paranoid now...of to test water parameters

Bump...you can't just say that one of the best filters on the market is rubbish and then not give any backup.

I just spent a heap on this setup...I'm interested to know why you say it won't do the job

Thanks

I'm guessing you have zero evidence or experience with a 2080 due to the lack of rely!

2217 is a wonderful filter, can't say anything about the 2080 as I haven't run one. My 75 is filtered by a 2217 and an ac110 and I love it. As for too much filtration, unless you have so much output that the flow is too much for your fish, you really can't go wrong lol.

Yea believe it or not i lost an oscar due to to much flow. I had dead spots setup but i later moved some powerheads to direct waste better. Needless to say i had no dead zone and i had an oscar tire out over a few days and die. At least thats what the few guys at big als that have experience think. As i brought in water they tested it. It was perfect, fish looked completely heathy. Was about 4" eating heavily. 800+ gal of movement per hour one not setup right in an 80 gallon can cause some serious stress on your fish. But some fish actually like the current.

Yep. If there isn't a spot to take a break, they'll tire out and die.

Thanks for all the posts guys but none of you have shed any light in the critical question.

My 2080 is filter with 12L seachem matrix, well this be enough bio filtration for the tank and with the 2217 as a purely mechanical filter, can I remove the 2 moving bed filters?

I guess, when I had discus I'm used to using them,I have moved to sa/ca cichlids and want to remove the ugly things from my tank lol

Thanks
