Does anyone know how to figure how much k1 media you will need in a sump? Im going to put it in my 400 gallon with 2 rays 5 cichla and about 10 geophagus. Previously I've been running only 2 liters of ceramic rings in 2 fx5 's and nitrates have stayed low. So I was thinking a gallon worth should be enough?

My math if its right or not shows that the 1 gallon purchased through ebay is good for feeding about half a pound of food daily. Thats 30.00 you said, The other stuff I have seen is 50.00 if I remember right for 1 cube foot, and that should be enough to feed about 1.5 lbs of food. Im going to look around for some media this weekend and see what I can find at the best price.

Exactly as Dr Strangelove says.

And k1, i believe, needs to be in motion to function properly. It is not a media one dumps into the sump..

i undersatnd that the motion needs to be "agressive".... as if "boiling"

I am going to install a specific container linked to the sump, whit the K1 boiling....
