question to experienced/first hand knowledge only please.

i came home late from work to find my tank a little cloudy(milky).
I then noticed the skin covering about a third of my 14" female motoro's stinger was missing so i knew she had stabbed something. no fish were breathing heavily(or missing!). so i thought nothing of it. it was only later when my male 16" flower ray was swimming up the glass i noticed a real nasty stab on the bottom of the disc near the gills and mouth. after that i noticed a full bite mark on HIS underside as well! it was quite a way to the centre of the disc.

The flower ray is fully mature now. and had only started chasing the female properly in the last couple of weeks. he has never bitten chunks out of her just left bite shaped scrapes.

so my question is could he have managed to flip her over to mate?
based on the fact either she was upside down or he was for her to ba able to bite his disc.

he is not bothering her at all now(this could be because she stabbed him)

all are eating normally as if nothing has happened.

thoughts on this please

thanks
sam

Well I have had motoros breed, and from what you have said sounds promising. Flowers too, that is awesome!!

The 1st time my motoros bred there was no damage to the female at all.
How big is the female??
My male is smaller than the female, so he was always the one who flipped

actually male flower with female peru motoro.

fingers crossed

Cant help you with your question, but it is promising in the sense that if your flower did impregnate
her it means that he is mature at only 16". Which is great to have first hand knowledge of. And to
those of us who have flowers.

I had a female marble motoro in a tank with a mature male "regular" motoro. I didn't know they mated until I saw the pup moving. THere were no bites marks or other signs that they had mated. Soon after, I added a mature male marble and sold the regular male. THe marble male really beat up the female through several more matings.
Good luck with yours.

Thanks for the answers so far. Since last weekend the male has not bothered/ harassed her at all. So I really do think he has done the deed. I just hope a 14/15" motoro can handle the size of a flower pup. Does anybody have any experience of this sort of thing before? e.g female motoro with an otorongo or castexi. The tiger pups frank and nico produced looked very large.

She will handle the pup or pups no problem Sam,hope for you they have done the deed, strange hybrid will be nice to see what they produce.
