I have a 1 inch baby silver datnoid. I noticed him rubbing his sides against the sand and saw a few white dots on his tail fin and nose.

I bought a 10 gallon tank to quarantine him. The LFS dealer told me that I should treat by raising the temp to 85 and putting 1 tablespoon of salt in the 10 gallon tank.

Is that the right treatment for a juvie datnoid? He didn't recommend any meds because he said dats are too sensitive to that, especially babies like mine.

How much salt to use for a juvie datnoid with ich? Please help!

The recommended dosage is far too low IMO. It can potentially create resistant strains of ich in the long run. I'd dose it at teaspoon per gallon for a start. If the datnoid seems to tolerate it well, you may carefully add another set of 0.1% solution (teaspoon per gallon) after 12 hours prior to adding the first set. Dissolve salt thoroughly before you add it to the tank. Make sure you are feeding your dat the right foods and add Vitamin C (via Vitachem) to enable him to build resistance. Juveniles are far too sensitive to health issues and easily weakened in the process.

Thanks Lupin. I'm giving my fish the salt treatment right now and they seem to be tolerating it well.

BTW, did you mean tablespoon or teaspoon of salt? I've been putting in teaspoons just to be safe.

It's teaspoon. A round heap of salt on tablespoon is equivalent to 3 teaspoons but stick to teaspoons anyway to keep your measurements accurate.
