How much salt do you go through?

I was just wondering how much salt you go through with a reef tank, can you post how often and how big are your water changes, how much do you buy and how long does it last?

Do you need the reef salts or is there alternatives?
 
i buy about 20 gallons of premixed SW a month (about 10 cups of salt in there)
the premixed SW is $1 /gallon so i spend 20 bucks a month... but that's for all 6 of my SW tanks

all of my tanks (sans one 3 gallon) are fully cycled and established, with minimum nitrate levels... so i really only NEED to change water when it suites me or if there's a lack of dissolved minerals (i only dose the big tanks as they are harder to F up)
 
a dlr a gallon is a lot lol.

i buy a 50gal mixable bag of reef salt. and buy "the water mill" drinking water that shows proper ro/di filtration.

i only have 1 tank, but its been setup for almost a year now and im still on the same bag. you topoff with fresh water. only use salt when u do changes. i change like 1gal every 2-4 weeks. top off weekly with fresh.
 
Instant Ocean 20lbs bags of salt. Now there's 2 kind, the regulars and the reef. Both works fine, most expertise recommend these if your going to mix it yourself.
 
I use reef crystal's for a 5% water change on my tank's every week and go through about a bucket every 2 month's since I am down to 4 tank's instead of 30.

why are you new to SW or are you just wandering if your not wasting salt?
 
i feel your pain Mr. Reef, i use about a bucket and a half every 2 months on water changes, but my show tank is about a 40 gallon water change, and my frag tanks are about 25 gallon water change, gone to the instant ocean purple buckets from reef crystals, couldn't see the point in reef crystals anymore since everything has to be dosed anyway.

What do you dose? I found most essential and trace element's are contained in the reef crystal's I just dose calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, iodine, and Iron once and a while most essential Reef element's are in the reef crystal's but not everyone does the same as other people.

i dose all kent stuff, the strontium, tech m, and coral vite, do it about 1-2 weeks, have a reactor for calcium
