How much sand?

I'm thinking of switching to black sand as my bichirs love to burrow. My tank footprint is 6' x 2.5'. I would like 2" of black sand to cover the entire base. I would like to know how much sand would I need to buy.

any idea where could I find such sand at affordable prices?

my guess would be between 40 and 60 pounds of sand no clue were to get it cheap no were around here evan has black sand

I usually shoot for about a pound per gallon. Probably about 100 pounds or so.

you should be able to get sand at a good price from a pool store (info given to me from a cichlid breeder)

I have a 6x3x2 that I put in 150lbs and still need to add another 50 to 100 lbs to get it to 2 inches all the way across. At the footprint you have I would start at 200 lbs. Any less and it'll be like mine and have low spots where you can see the bottom. Not sure where to get the black sand though. Good luck!

Probably a pound per gallon because i have a 55 gal and i put 50 pounds in there and its probably 2 and a half to 3 inchs thick

If I'm using a pound per gallon, it would add up to about 280 pounds since its a 280g tank [6' x 2.5' x 2.5']

You didn't post the height originally. I calculated to be over 200 lbs of sand when I looked the first time. I just suggested a low amount so you don't over buy. You will probably need 150 lbs or more.
