right now I'm in the middle of ridding my room of some tanks and was wondering if my little EBJD was a keeper, I've seen adult specimens and they are beautiful, far from what my drab little EBJD, though he is a very pretty fish and would keep him even in his current coloration I must part with him or my saum, and parting ways with either is tough, but if they change as drastically as it seems i'd like to keep him, right now he is blotchy with a cheetah like look, lots of baby blue and a little bit of gold dust like around the mid body area if my camera was good enough I would supply better pics but i'll get what I can

EBJDs change drastically in coloration as they grow. My EBJD changed colors within a few months. Your EBJD should also exhibit these changes soon so I think you should wait it out and see how your EBJD turns out before making the decision.

mine is similar to the one in the after pic, was hoping for coloration of the first. I may wait it out just need to get a tank big enough for both and find a less expensive way to filter and light it, thanks

The decorations make a difference, too. I split a spawn between two tanks. One tank was the "keepers" and I decided to add in some substrate, plants, etc. The sand was light colored and the EBJD's in there lost all their blue so they are a shiny golden color! The other tank is on a black surface and their colors are developing a lot more black and blue. Their mother stays velvety black - she stays in a hollow log almost all the time. So if you're not happy with the EBJD color, try changing something! If you want it darker, add more dark places for it to spend time and maybe use less light.

I think it is worth the wait for your EBJD to color up. This was my EBJD the day I brought him home(August 11th)

and this is what he looks like tonight(just took these pictures now for this thread lol) They aren't the best because I have a crappy camera and crappy photo taking skills, but it does give you the idea of how his color has changed.

If you look closely you can see someone photobombing this pic lol

have had my ebjd for a couple months now, not much change just about a half inch growth and less gold, i really want his blue to darken and his black lines and spots to leave. in any case i am going to try to keep him, hopefully he is up for sharing the tank with a a betta on top of the tetras he already lives with

I don't think he will mind sharing since it will be a potential buffet for him later. Once he reaches 5" and decideds he's the big fish in a small pond, don't be surprised if the betta and tetras go missing...
