hey all, i am just about to free up my 20g and ive been wanting to try cherry shrimp this time around.

now, the problem is, i dunno what i should be paying for them!

ive seen online about $1.50-$4.00, and i called a lfs and the guy told me $4.50 a piece  i told him i would pay no more than $1.00, and then he lowered to $1.50. i told him id call him back.

now, what should i pay? i see ghost shrimp going pretty consistently around the different shops for 25 cents..

Online is warehouse/ bulk price. Lfs is market price. Seems like you got a pretty generous LFS owner. Quit being so damn cheap, 1.50 a shrimp aint ish, unless your using them as feeders. Most use ghosts as feeders. What are you trying to save a couple quarters? You "SHOULD" be paying how much that critter is worth to you.....

I get a buck a piece for mine. Though anyone who buys 20 dollars worth probably gets 30-40 shrimp. They are a PITA to count.

Just trying to figure out if I was being ripped off by going more than $2.

And sure, they would be worth alot to me, but if I'm buying 30 or more to start a colony, I'd want to save as much as I can so I could buy more. Every lfs store worker I've ever dealed with (aside from petsmart) had a "used car dealer" attitude about selling, so if I can negotiate, I will.

$4.50 is too much. $1.50 is about right. It's pointless to buy 30 of them though. just buy 6-8 or so and wait awhile and you'll have all the shrimp you can handle.

You got that right, picked up a dozen a couple years ago. Now have a 29 and 10g crammed full with probably over 1000 shrimp. They make a good food source for some fish plus I've sold near $300 worth of them over that time on craigslist.

have you guys considered buying online? there are ALWAYS people selling red cherry shrimp on aquabid.com they go for something like... $14 shipped for 12, or 25 or for $27 shipped(slightly over 1 shrimp for $1 shipping included). I've seen one guy sell on mfk marketplace before and there are a few on aquariacentral marketplace :D

and if you find someone generous they often include extras to cover any doas. plus they toss in plants for them to cling to during shipping, so u end up with a surprise :P

Wow you guys are crazy. I would sell RCS for a dime a piece and even then I couldn't find enough people to buy them as fast as they would bread. I would only get say $5.00 a piece for my SS CRS and only around $20 for the really nice ones. In fact I gave away over 100 RCS when I converted my tanks to CRS.
