Does anyone have an idea of how much Texas Holey Rock would be suitable for a 55 gallon tank? I am doing an african rift tank with either mbunas or tangs but I was not sure how much I should buy? Does anyone have a ballpark number in terms of pounds? I do not need to absolutely top out my tank in rocks especially since it is a 55 gallon which does not provide a huge footprint width-wise, but I still would like to have it filled out sufficient enough to give it that nice panoramic look, maybe so I could still fit in a nice piece of driftwood or have about a 4-6 inch gap in-between the 2 or 3 rock piles. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Agree with ziggy, instead of pounds, get the size and shapes you want.

I bought 3 pieces for my 55, Biggest piece was 62 Pounds, the other 2 were between 40 and 5 or something like that. I thought it looked great in the 55. But I also think it looks as equally good in my 155.

BTW.....please post pics!!! THR is very cool.

I didn't know you could put 62 pound sections of rock into a 55 gallon glass tank. But I kind of wounder though what are the rock weight limits for these fish tanks though in that I've seen some people with small amounts of rock in them and some people with giant rocks in them?

Sure thing...I'm pretty set on doing a Mpimbwe Frontosa colony for the tank. I original had RB piranhas in there but they were making a mess and were growing quicker than I could upgrade. A colony of 5 Fronts at 3-4" is a bit more manageable since they grow like molasses. I might throw some calvus or leleupi in there as well, or maybe just keep it a one species tank until I upgrade to something larger. I ended up buying 3 THR rocks today. All 3 rocks are about 10-15 pounds each. I can always add more if I feel up to it. Thanks!

Edit on weight. The G/F says that the Total weight of all three pieces was 62, and the one in the middle is about 37.

Sorry. I didn't by them. I thought she told me the biggest one was 62 and the other two were around 37.
