Hey everyone,

I have a new fire eel, about 6-7 inches long now, and am concerned that I may be feeding the little glutton too much. He started off on about a half cube of bloodworms everyday (the little cichlids and barbs helped out a bit with that too). Now he is in his bigger grow out tank, a 55. He's grown a tiny bit and is eating about 1/3 cubes a day with (2) 1.5" earthworms. Somedays I'll only feed him earthworms. These days, he takes 3 of the small trout worms or baby night crawlers (I raise my own).

Should I be feeding him everyday? If so, should I be feeding him this much?

Thanks,

Should be fine, I feed my guys nightly however much they can eat until sated. and skip a feeding 1x a week. I have noticed they will eat alot less during the winter months. The only concern I would have w/ them eating so much is the potential for internal parasites. which will make them look pudgey but you can check around the head in particular for "thin" looking or concave spots. Rule that out first.

My guys went threw a huge growth spurt in the 6-18" bracket and ate all I could feed them. 1x a day as much as it can eat imo is not feeding to much. w/ a day here and there of fasting.

I use prazipro. 1/2 dos first treatment then full dos for the following treatments. I'm also not one to pull filter cartridges ect. it will foam like crazy, so be careful of a wet/dry sump type foaming over. and be careful not ot OD... better to have to treat again in a month then kill your fish w/ an accidental OD. I've personally never had issues useing this or other meds. But I treat my FW eels like you'de treat clownloaches. Very carefully. Any signs of severe stress do a 25-50% WC immediately.
