Hey guys, I have a five inch red tail gold arowana and I bought some meal worms to feed it. How many should I feed him a day, and how many times a day should I feed it?

Very nice aro :) Have a look through the sticky notes about aro keeping they will tell you all the information you need to know in regards to a healthy diet. You will want to give him a good variation in food. Im sure it will be recommended to try and get him into food sticks as he is still small and treat him with the meal worms. Hope this helps and good luck with him! Hoping to get myself a RTG very soon :D

I would feed twice a day, and however much he wants to eat, up until he's about a foot in length then cut back to once a day. It could be up to 6 worms and will increase as the aro grows. Toss in a pellet or two each tie he feeds. I use Hikari food sticks, and for an aro that size, I break the pellet in half. In the meantime, place a couple of pieces of raw carrot in your worm tub and gut load those worms! Carrots contain carotene and its one of the best natural products for enhancing colours in your fish. :)

feed other things other than mealworms
when you just feed mealworms, your aro will be spoilt and never eat anythign else dead.

feed shrimp, pellets first.
or pellets first, then shrimp and pellets.
then live occasionally
unless you have a unlimited supply of live food

I just bought some dried prawns to feed it. Is that enough or should I still buy the hikari sticks?

you should buy hikari sticks as well as give him a varied diet

but even if he did have an unlimited supply of live food the arow wouldnt be healthy as they need variation and different food to get the vibrant colours buy i would also pick some cichlid gold pellets the large size up their great for feeding arrows and really inhance the colours :)

I agree withe Henward. I feed my Aro approx. 60 Hikari sticks; then every other day or two Hikari sticks + Shrimps (costco) x 2; every Friday, I give him Hikari pellets + Krill (that's the FAV) and Live feed with gold fish once every 2 weeks. I believe it's a good mix and she seems healthy.
