Iv'e noticed since my retic pup started eating that if there is food in the tank, he feeds. He is about 3-4". Wednesday I will be adding a 5" motoro to the tank as well. Currently live blackworms and frozen bloodworms are being offered. Is there a general rule of thumb on how much to give? Until I get my 300 gallon deep dimension, there are also (6) 2-3" discus in the tank. I just want to be sure everyone is getting their share. Plans are to have the 300 up and running within 6 months to a year.

rays will generally eat until they are full. it all depends on your feeding schedule. if you feed once a day, see how much it will eat in that one feeding until it stops, then use that as an estimate for daily feedings. if you feed multiple times a day, then there is more room to feed less each feeding.

X2 totally agree....

I understand the theory, was just wondering an actual realistic volume. Such as something along the lines of a 3" retic could potentially eat 3 squares of frozen bloodworms...etc. I may also be grasping at straws..maybe there is no basic guideline. :headbang2

well, my 9 inch retic male will eat roughly 14 pieces of earthworms each feeding (7 whole worms cut in half) before he's full. he'll be hungry in a few hrs after that though.

My teacup will take about 20-25 blackworms 2-3 times a day any more than that and she will jsut swim off only because her belly just is not big enough to consume more than that. If it is leaving food behind it is just simply because it's too full which is always a good thing.

Thanks for the replies. He's been eating like a PIG until yesterday then has only taken a few worms here and there since. I'm beginning to get concerned. I've found that he's still leaving poo behind though, hope he's just on a slow spell and not replapsing into the problems I've had before. I swear the last couple days he had eaten 2 blocks of bloodworms by himself 3 times a day. Time will tell I guess. And I thought aquariua was supposed to be a non stressful hobby! I've been stressing a lot over this little guy and his latest bout of not eating isn't helping.

lol yea rays can stress you out could just be a hunger strike mine has had her fair share
