Hello
For me I run a 135 gallon tank with 2x2217's and 300watts combined heater power, that's it. no lighting and no air pumps

so 2 x 2217 = 40 watts
300 watts heater (damn) = 300

340 watts total

how about you fine folks?

I looked online for the xp3 watts and it said 19. I saw a thread that said the filter head says 28 watts. I'll have to plug it into the kill a watt when I get home tomorrow to see what it says.

I thought that heaters only use power when they're actually heating the water. I mean, once the water has reached the set temperature, it shuts off and no power is used. So even if you have a 300W heater, you're not using 300W all day.

Same with the lites, and u fluval guys have auto shut off!

Dont fish generate watts? Oh thats ammonia :/

well during the winter months they generally stay on all day it seems

Do you have a point?

Actually I hope I didn't come off wrong asking this. I'm not sure why you were asking. The OP was just asking total watts. Unless you have a kill a watt and plug your heater in to see how many actual watts it's pulling and then see how many kilowatts it uses in a 24 hour period you'll never really know how much power your heater uses per hour on average. Also different times of year and even just different days will affect how much your heaters are on. Actually depending on the placement of the tank different times of day will make a difference too. We have our furnace on 50-65 when we're gone or asleep and 70-75 when we're awake and at home. The heaters will be on more at certain times. The heaters don't draw power when they're off though. My ranco controller for my heaters do use 2 watts though.
