Heya, Recently I had something going in my head about water, every week I change over 400 liters in my Aquarium which doesn't seen much when you look at it first but when you do some maths you will find something scary!
My Aquarium:
[YT]<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2qhKzyFYTwY&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2qhKzyFYTwY&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>[/YT]
This is about it, nothing special.
Live stock:
2 Peacock Bass's
1 Silver Arowana
2 Tiger Oscars
2 Fire eels
all very healthy and all.

so as I done some maths I realized how much water I really use :nilly:
Because I do over 400 liters every week with some exceptions ( like if I don't fill well or I'm away)
that's 1600 liters a month, not much
but I do say 1500 liters because couple of times in a year I just can't do water changes because I don't fill well and such as :nilly:

so 1500 liters x 12 months = 18000 liters.

I own my big aquarium for nearly 2 years now so I do calculate it ahead.
18000 x 2 = 36000 liters over 2 years :WHOA: :screwy:

36000's liters of water over 2 years!
that is amazing! not sure how much water is but I think that this is a lot of money!

And sorry that I wasn't around for so long but I'm really busy with school now.
any opinions?
do your own math and see how much water you are using!

"A ten minute shower with a regular shower head can use as much as 42 gallons of water."

so say you take 1 shower a day so with no extra showers you use about 15330 gal of water a year in showers

15,330 USGal = 58,030.3625874 Leters

OMG, that is bad!
from now on I will only shower once a week

Not counting showers, new tank startups, car washing, etc., I go through over 190,000 liters a year in water changes alone. All of the waste water (minus evaporation) goes into the gardens. I submit a monthly letter to the water district to adjust my sewer rates since I don't drain tank water to the sewer.

I wish that I could change title of this thread, it would make an lovely sticky.
''How much liters of water are you using in Aquarium in a year''

I don't like the amount of water I go through each month, either.

We only have a finite supply of fresh water and our population keeps expanding. Right now this isn't so much of a problem but I think the future of fishkeeping will be in jeopardy unless we figure out ways of reusing our water. We will probably have to do what koi keepers in drought ridden states are doing now - burning off organics with potassium permanganate or ozone.

But for now I do my water changes the same old way.

water in my area is cheap, thank god.

I shower twice a day (in the morning and when I get home from work since I am a wastewater treatment plant operator)

I have a dishwasher and laudry machine I run weekly etc.

I change about 100 gallons (400 litres) total out of my 150, 65 and 20 each week

and my water bill is still only $40 for two months. not much..

maybe you should be more concerned with taking a faster shower or finding a more efficient way to wash the car and such. The water you use for your tanks should not be that big of a impact as the other ways we waste water. also you could do what i do. Over kill the filtration and do less water changes and take faster showers and use as little water as possible to wash the car and motorcycle and save even more water.

fyi im not trying to be rude in any way. so you know

i have no idea... the guy i rent my house from pays the water bill.. so far he has never said a word to me about it... :)
