Hey,

As some of you guys may know I;m trying my hand at rearing some corals in my 72 gallon bow front. So far I got the lighting fixture down which will be a 216 watts and 4 leds total, and now I'm hearing things on water movement.

I have an fx5, and a korialla pump mag 5...is that enough water movement for some corals like polpys, mushrooms...etc?

ii think the key is to have no dead spots, so usually one pump on each side is good. Polyps and shrooms should be fine with what you have. I believe that LPS are suppose to up current from sps and softies

Flip those two from what you are saying if I understand you correctly. The very general rule is SPS require the most flow. Mushrooms and polyps do not require a lot of flow and I agree that what you have should work just fine. I would just make sure the outtake of the FX5 is on the opposite side of the tank from the Koralia 5. This will at least create some random currents. You can definitely add another powerhead or 2 if you'd like, and if you get into some other corals I would recommend it.

Well I got my info from the "Marine Reef Aquarium Handbook" and I inferred it wrong. here is what is said:

"Soft corals secrete copious mucus that can smother and kill a hard coral, so keep the hard corals close to the powerhead discharge and soft corals downstream and distant."

Another aspect to that is that soft corals usualyl dont like as much flow as the SPS cats...which tend to like more than anyone else.

Hey thanks for the replies guys, yes both pumps are on opposite sides, also I've been looking at wavemakers. I'm thinking of saving up for the mp40 vortrech pump. It's is definitly a pretty penny, but elminating bulky pumps in my tank is always an option for me. Thanks when I add my first coral to my tank (Probably in a few weeks or a month) I'll give a pic, most likely it's gonna be in the polyp group cause I really like them, any specific ones you guys recommend? Thanks again..i'd be lost with out MFK!

Wow! an MP40!?!

Sweet. :D

I want to upgrade my 125g to vortech...however it would cost a ridiculous amount of money.

Lol fleshy, so far based on youtube videos it looks like it will be worth every penny. Im probably gonna get it in likea month or 2 because I'm only making about $20-$50 a week...this is defintly a pricey hobby....a rich man's hobby! lmfao been told that numerous times

I absolutely recommend the vortech. On my 28 gallon I have 2 return pumps, a koralia 1, and an MP10. The corals and fish love it. I have it set on a random mode that ranges from 10%-90% and there is not a dead spot in the tank.
