I just picked up a 8" black pacu. He's eating like a pig and i know they get real big, real fast. He's in my tank with mid size fishes. A red devil chiclid(7in), silver arrowana(12"), a giant gourami( 7in") , frontosa cichlid(7in), a huge rosequeen( 12") and 4 red parrot (3in). The tank is a 500G hook up to a 125G sump. I have an Eheim filter but its not in use. I use the porous rocks as natural filter roughly about 200lbs. I also use small filters bag to catch debris /waste. Usually I change about 150G of water every 2 wks. Is that enough? thanks

It would help if you posted your water parameters before that 150g change and 1 day after to see how your water reads.

Eh...:screwy:

Word of advice, check the legality of your stocklist before you post it on a public forum. Might not seem like a big deal, but law is law and there are enforcers lurking in the shadows of MFK.

Maybe they changed it then... Did you check the restricted species sticky? Last I knew all Characins were a no no in Texas. Only remember this cause I thought it was rather odd. Not a big deal to any of us, but may be to someone... Not tryin to be a dik about it or anything, just don't want to see someone get pinched for something they weren't aware of.

I appreciate your concern...really. I didn't even realize pacus are restricted at all. I dont know about other states but in Houston you can pretty much find pacus in most pet stores. With that said i really don't know for sure if theyre legal or not. Freshwater is somewhat new to me. I've been keeping marine(salt) for over 8 years now. I've had african cichlids in the past but when It comes to other freshwater fish I guess I'm still a rookie.

I stand corrected! Pacu are fine, it's pretty much any Characin with a decent set of dentures that aren't allowed.

Last sticky in the classifieds, page 4, 2nd to last post is the restrictions for Texas.
