Some one turned in a "breeding" pair of Jack Dempseys at my lfs. The guy at the store said they were $50 for the pair. Is this a good deal. If they don't breed is that a good deal for two Jack Dempseys. Thanks in advanced.

Size? Personally, I wouldn't spend the $50 for two Jacks, I'd take my chances in purchasing about four or five and making my own pair...

thats what i would do to

Jacks are too common to spend $50 on a pair. How big are they? Maybe you can make him an offer, if you really want them.

I agree that $50 is too high for a breeding pair of JDs... Chances are they came to the shop as a donation, so his only investment is space and food for the time they have been there... if they are new arrivals it shouldn't be too hard to talk the price down...

FYI - $30 is what I would consider a decent price for a pair... but I'd just buy a little guy and a little girl for $5 each and wait a few months...

They are really nice. The female is about 8 in. and the male is about 4 in. Or maybe it's the other way around. I'll try to get some pictures.

ayou could do what i did go buy 2 baby jacks get 2 baby texas instead and have them breed twice in a month so that paid for itself they sell the texas for $8 each

Depends on the quality and size of the fish, i would pay more for a stunning pair....

Me too. You can't generalise on a fishes value just because of the species. It's size, quality and condition need to be taken into account. A fully grown quality F0 (Wild) proven pair would be worth double that.

Buying youngsters and growing them on to form a pair works. But the chances are you're buying siblings and this leads to inbred fish. And thats why so many crap quality fish are for sale.
