Hello, I step into this forum to ask about Saltwater more specifically on How much money/effort would a 40galbreeder with Dwarf Fuzzy Lionfish be to set up and maintain? I've read that Fuzzy Leos get to 6" and like to be in little groups, do they have to be in groups or would a male be happy in a 40gal by itself....I just would like these questions answered.

EDIT: would a AC110 with UV an Powerheads work?
Thank You, From a Freshie

well it would work okay with just one fish. I usually always recomend a skimmer but since this will be a species tank you will likely be fine without one. If you could get 3 fuzzy's i think that would be better then 1. This will also be better in odd numbers to avoid any over aggression towards one fish. Cost wise, it vary's. You dont need a whole lot, cost of the tank, some rock and sand, the basic freshwater maintanence stuff should do the trick, just be sure not to cross contaminate any medications etc... A light with a bit of actinic color would be good to help the visual appearence of the tank, but not needed. Id say a safe bet would be anywere between 250-400 bucks. Again, if you could spare the extra cash, a decent HOB skimmer would help you a lot, and also prevent the nasty foam buildup on the surface of tanks without overflows. Good luck

sweetang pretty much summed it up. You'd be ok with 1 fuzzy, but 3 is better. See if you can get one of those small HOB filters with a built in skimmer. Use that in addition to the AC110 and you'll be good to go. If you don't want to go the live rock route (more expensive) you could always go with lace rock (much cheaper). Over time the lace rock will look just like live rock. Go with live sand too, it will help with bio filtration. Good lighting is key too. A nice PC light with a 10k bulb or if you can get a light fixture with 2 bulbs, get a 10k bulb and a bulb that is half daylight and half actinic. If you have the tank and filter, your only real expense will be the sand and the fish. The rock is fairly cheap. Good luck!
