Got permission from my friends Bobby and Yvette to share how they successfully hatched super red sev eggs. Their success story was the only one I know of.

Don't try this unless you are sure about this.....at least don't try when adults are in the tank.

They had a breeding pair (super reds both males and females) spawning regularly but as "usual", the eggs didn't hatch. They just turned white, followed by fungal growth and, needless to say, dead eggs.

Then they had an accident one day. Bobby decided to bleach the HOB filter for whatever reason when the pair were guarding yet another clutch of eggs. So he did. But he forgot to rinse the filter before he plugged it back in. Both of the parents died quickly, presumably because of the residue bleach. But, miraculously, the eggs didn't turn white or die. They hatched. Bobby raised some fry and they were obviously red when they were about 1.5".

So - it's bleach at an unknown concentration for an unknown period of time. Wish I could provide more details but that's all I (and they) know. If you have red sevs spawning but eggs are not hatching, this might be worth a try...

I've tried both methylene blue and H2O2 when I used to breed angels. It was actually a lot easier to physically remove individual white eggs than using fungicide. All you need is just a straightened out paper clip and a turkey baster :)

In the case of red sevs, I'm guessing that the eggs might require a different water chem to hatch. But who knows.

Never bred red sev. but has anyone tried very soft water(if this was discussed and tried please disregard this post)? Could that be a trigger?

do they have the spawn ph, and then the parents' post-death ph of the water?

then, of course there were 2 adults crying in to the tank of dead red sevs, which added a big dump of saline tears to the mix..
