On the thread on ten most aggressive cichlids, a lot of people had the Nandopsis Haitiensis (Black Nasty) in the top three. I have owned a lot of aggressive cichlids before, but I have never owned a Black Nasty before. Can someone provide me with some quick info on this fish. Just how aggressive is he, and how big will he get? Does his attitude match his name?:irked:

Pretty Nasty when they get passed 7". Mine is 8" now and is OWNING 13" Midas and RD's as well as my (unconfirmed size) 14" Beani. Mine has just killed my brand new Lima Shovelnose cat overnight. Trust me they are no little pansie fish. I would definately put them in a top 5 of most aggro. They will get around 16" upon maturity. Should be kept in a MINIMUM of 125 gallons with no tank mates or maybe a bottom dweller such as a huge sailfin plec or common. Should be fed alot of protein. Don't stick your hands in the tank lol. I would say they are just as aggro as Dovii and Festae.

Well I had 5 from an auction, it went quickly to 1 (it was a bag of 5 for a dollar). And the guy wasn't even more than 1.5 inches when he killed off the other 4.

I have 4 and in the first few days I had them they started beating each other. They were only 1.5" or so. Each is in its own 10 gallon now. They are mean as hell. Most other big cichlids at least get along with their own until they start wanting to breed. Haitiensis don't get along ever.

I wish I had only paid 5 for $1. Quite a bit more for mine.

Just curious playa, the name makes it sound like a real gangsta fish, and gangsta is whats up when you talkin monsta fish.

I started with 4 Haits and now have 1. It is currently about 3" to 3 1/2" and can turn from white to dark black instantly. The only thing that can live with it is 5 tiny little 1/4" Convicts. The Cons are able to escape and hide in the gravel. It relentlessly chased an older male Convict that is easily twice it's size. I had to remove the Convict and put it with my Trimacs and Dovii. The Black Nasty used to pick on my Dovii and Trimacs, I had to do a pretty big rearrange to get it it's own tank. Definately a cool fish to own.

they got that common name for a reason they seem to HATE other fish that have the same color and they get pretty big also they are prone to bloat and need some vegetable matter in there diet
