How neccesary is it to keep your water level down? How much should it be down?

I've read that leaving enough space for them to go to the surface to get air once in a while is ideal, and I usually only fill the water to the top of where the glass ends, leaving plenty of room for oxygen exchange.

I just got my trio of Sens yesterday, and I lowered the water level down an inch, and noticed how many bubbles the water from the filter output was creating, and i'm not too sure how much I like it. I have an airstone on the opposite side of the tank to aid in airation, but also to create a small current pushing water and debris toward the filter intake. The output from the filter is now creating quite a current, and is making it difficult for debris to be sucked up into the intake.

I'm not really concerned with them escaping, as my tank is covered very well. So, can I raise my water level back up to where it was where the top brace starts? Or do I NEED to keep it down a bit?

Thanks in advance. :)

I keep it just so that it's not touching the top of the tank, especially in a tank that has any bichirs, corys, or any other such fish.

The top of the tank, meaning the very top of the rim?

Sorry, just trying to be sure. :)

I always filled mine to the top of the glass. I kept my tank well covered and I never had any problems.

Filled to the bottom of the trim should be fine

I keep at least an inch of room from the top. This way it'll be harder for them to escape and also for them to not hit the cover when they happen to go up for air really fast or just when startled.

just cover the tank,i learned my lesson LOL,my arowana was chasing the flagtail and the flagtail bumped too my ornate,my ornate jumped out of a small hole o.o,i saved it,i was panicing

Fill up the tank to the bottom of the trim so you can't see the surface. The tank is more beautiful that way.
