how ofetn to service filters

Monthly depending on the amount of wastes involved. Clogged filters of course need to be cleaned up.
They only need serviced when their output slows down. Don't wash the media though, only the mechanical filtration part. I have two fluval 404's on my 125 and I only clean them about 2 times per year. I do do frequent water changes and lots of vacuuming though.
