i have 3 senegals, red hump geo and a purple spot goby in my tank. the goby is pretty much full grown. but the others are pretty small. i heard beef heart makes them grow fast so out of curiosity i picked some up. i have been using it once a week. their main diet is bloodworms and algae wafers.

idk, what the point of this thread even is lol. just share your opinions on beef heart if you want.

i just started using beef heart, also. i've heard the same thing you have, that they generate growth. i'm assuming that it's a premium form of protein. the problem i've noticed is that it's messy. i drop it in a 1/4 cup of water to melt it down, then i pour the cup of "gruel" into my tank and it scatters into small pieces and seems to slightly cloud my tank for awhile. once it's comsumed, the tank clears up again. am i feeding it properly? i use the same method with frozen blood worms and my fish love them. with beef hearts, i don't notice my fish eating with the same excitement. i'm starting to wonder if beef hearts are worth the trouble or are they overrated?

do your fish seem lazy as hell for a day after too? i'm having second thoughts...

i don't know if they get lazy or not. i've only fed beef hearts twice. i've had them in my freezer for over a month, now. how do you feed your fish beef hearts/ do you melt it down or what?

i just did it now, i just throw it in a cup with tank water. same way you do. my senegals go nuts for it. nothing else really touches it. they ate a cube of it in about 20 seconds and they are all about 3 inches.

I just throw it in frozen.I have a GT that literally swallows it whole. And I cut the cube into half to give to my breeding convicts.I cut it in half so they don't fight over it.
I feed it to them about once a week.

i think i'll try it frozen and still in cube form to see if that improves my fish's desire to eat it. right now, some of them eat it and some seem to not really eat it that much. we shall see . . .

Have you tried Hikari brand? I use that, and it isn't messy at all. It melts in 30 seconds and stays in a clump. My ropefish used to love it.

i have hikari bloodworms, which work superbly. i have san francisco bay brand beef hearts. maybe i will cancel the san fran beef hearts and try the hikari.
