As I read a box of Fluval Bio Max, I see they recommend replacing it every 3 months.

My question, how often do you throw out old bio media and replace it with new?

Personally I have occassionally rinsed off some of my bio but do not replace it.

Never

I never do either... sometimes I'll rinse it, but thats always in cold water, and only if theres another filter on the tank.

Never ever. Waste of good media that lasts forever and ever to never get replace ever.

This is all what I thought. Perhaps a bit of shrewd marketing by Hagen?

At $17 a box up here and my fluval using 3 boxes at a time, hmm $204 a year in bio, that will drive sales:)

never, but never rinse it in water that has chlorine.. it'll kill off the BB colonies.
