I have 2 penguin 350s on my 55 gal and I replace 3 of the 4 cartridges every 3 months. Is this adequate?

How often do you change your media for those of you that have these filters?

I know that the 350 has 4 slots I just think that's overkill. You don't need the activated carbon unless youre trying to take out meds or tannis. I bought some blue bonded media sheets and cut my own to fit. I got a 12"X 10' roll for $7 on eBay. I cut off the filter media from the plastic frame and use the frame to back my media. Really inexpensive

I do two 40% water changes every week and use Seachem's Prime as a conditioner. I test the waters parameters once a week after the second water change and so far everything's been pristine.

Yes the 350's do have 4 cartridge slots but i think they are necessary only because my 55 houses a Sanchezi piranha and they tend to be messy eaters.

How about the bio wheels? Ive never changed those...still adequate?

Bio wheels house the bb on that filter. If they get really gunked up they stop turning. If that happens try a rinse in tank water.

okay. yeah my bio wheels have never had a problem spinning. So all in all I assume I'm okay in this area. Thanks everyone for your inputs!
