How often do you test your water?

^ x2. The only time I use it is when I'm cycling a tank, or somethings wrong.

I find the dip strips a great way to test for consistency... then if an issue makes itself known dig deeper with the drip tests...

The dip strips are very quick and are inexpensive when bought in bulk... I suggest you store them away from the aquarium to prevent being damaged by humidity...

I suggest you test your water whenever you do something abnormal...

The newer you are the more often you should check your water... As the more likely you are to overlook something that could impact your water...

When new to a location... regardless of your experience level... I suggest testing your water frequently to get accustom to the water from your new location...

That said... I don't test my water often at all... If I lookedc through my stuff I'm sure I could find an outdated test kit of some kind...

I checked mine for dates and there is none. Mine are ooooooold!

I just started getting neurotic about testing since I changed my tank from my Africans to my Aro.:screwy:

With the Africans I never tested and they were all GREAT

ever since i started this hobby i have never tested my water nor bought anything to test it. i think testing water is over exaggerated unless your breeding fish

Neither has my Mom. Keeps an over stocked 25g tank with Discus and Angels for 2 years......rarely does water changes as well:nilly: Has not lost a fish yet!
Go figure!!

Ammonia/nitrite are important tests to have on hand. pH is also a very important test to have on hand if you're injecting CO2. Nitrate is useful as a water change indicator (in unplanted tanks, anyway.)

That said, I don't test unless something's wrong or I'm curious about my pH.
