How often do you think monster fish eat in the wild?

I realize that a large part of the equation is species, location, time of year, etc. but lets just generalize.

Judging by my Oscars behavior in the tank, I would have to say 12 times a day. LOL

I don't think it would be everyday unless they had the opportunity too. Many predatory fish have evolved their position of the intestines to the stomach to accomidate for storage of large prey. If going for large prey, that could sustain them for sometime incase they do not get a meal in a few days.
