So I really want to buy another tank (and first big one). I currently have a 75 gallon and want an standard 180. I am just going to save what I can each week (since I am a student) and buy one in the next couple of months.

Now my question is how often do you see a used one go for sale? So far the cheapest new (just tank) I have been able to find in my area is for $595 (From That Fish Place). Its about a two hour drive as I live in South Jersey.

Also, how much should a used one go for? Is anyone on here planning on selling one in the future?

I see 180g tank on craigslist at all sorts of prices. Once I saw one for less than $180 and almost bought it but the wife vetoed it on grounds of having nowhere to put it. :D

Lol good thing I am single! I have searched Craig's List in my area and have only been able to find 125 gallons and less and they are outrageously priced. One guy wanted $400 for a 29 gallon!

Just a suggestion, try searching different areas on CL. I do NY, North NJ, and Long Island :D Did 3 weeks on NY and didn't find anything, went to long island for a week and got my tank yesterday.

I will have to try that, thanks for the suggestion.

For a while I didn't see anything over 75 gallons then right around the beginning of summer I seen all kinds of truly big tanks (125 and up) and the prices have went from really good deals to they can't be serious. But I definitely don't search just in one area. If you are willing to drive there for the deal of a lifetime watch it, u just might catch one

and it would seem everytime you buy one and think you got a good deal... a look on two to three days later usually comes up with a crazy good deal

I paid $400 for my used 180 All-Glass-Aquarium Co. W/ Matching commercially made stand. (also came with 2 canisters, but I see that as a bonus).

$1 a gallon is a good rule, but for rare, larger tanks, expect to dish out more...

If your on a budget, and willing to compromise, shoot for a 125 or 150. They will be vastly cheaper, as they're more common. You can buy a BRAND NEW 125 tank only, @ Petsmart.com for $325. So used should be around $150 or less (tank only).

Good luck. I'm assuming your still rooming with the parents, as MOST landlords DO NOT allow aquariums. If you do have a landlord, they'll probably scream at the thought of a 180 gallon.

if you look around and dont mind doing work. look at north philly. there is normally tanks for sale as i think one guy just flips them as he can. his prices are around 1 per gal.
