I'm just curious...how often does your lung go up for Air.
I have been reading posts of lungs not moving for hours...but both of my lungfish go up for air every 3 to 5 minutes...I was also wondering about the water hight people keep their lungs in...if I look at some lungfish who have to swim to the top of the tank to take a breath only take small amouts of air...WHen I look at my lungs (I have them on a low water level) they take a huge gulp of air wich wil take aprox 5 to 6 seconds)

my MAL surfaces maybe once an hour, but back before he was eating in front of me I literally NEVER saw him surface, which leads me to believe they can use both forms of respiration dissolved oxygen in water thru there gills as well as atmosperic oxygen like us

my lung is in a 40 breeder 36x18widex18 filled to about an inch from the top if that low, and when he surfaces he takes HUGE gulps if you listen closely you can here him inhale he sounds just like we would

My Marbled African Lung is in a well oxigenated tank and surfaces every hour or so aswell, but when his water is sligher hotter than usual he surfaces more regular

my MAL/WAL (unsure) did surface every 10 minutes or so and took a big gulp, i changed his tank yesterday and now he only comes up every hour or so

im unsure what effects it

oh and I keep my water level high but he is a big guy now so he can still breath while keeping his tail on the bottom

I also have the same question as stated above.
I have a 210 gal thats 24" high.
Would a lungfish be happier if I dropped my water level???:goldfish:

I would either drop the water level down to maybe 18" or put a large rock or piece of wood that is about 62 beneath the surface somewhere in the tank that it can use to stand on
