Hi all, I just got 2 Pictus for my newly cycled tank. I was wondering how often I should feed the little buggers. I have been reading on some forums only 3 times a week. I thought that seemed like it wouldn't be enough. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

If they are small feed them daily if they are really large they can be feed a bit less often.

Judge by their tummies. Once it bulges (quite significantly) - they had enough. Once it's flat, they are ready for the next. Amount matters as much as the frequency.

Saw you post in another thread. I'd recommend 6-7. If you are super-pleased with 2, you'll go through the roof with 7. They are the best looking and behaving in a sizable group.

Thanks for the responses! I fed them some sinking carnivore pellets last night and again today. I also put in a cube of blood worms today. it seems as one of them is really interested in eating and the other isn't. I'm assuming he will eat when he is ready. The stomach on the one who is eating is not bulging a lot but but he quit eating and there is still some worms in the tank so I am assuming he is full for now. I just got them yesterday so maybe they are still getting use to things. I think they are enjoying their time as the only two in a 125 gallon! They will be getting some Tapajos company very soon.

I agree. They'll be adjusting for a week or two but the fact that they are eating now is great and promising. You never told of their sizes?

That is good news! I would say they are about 3.5 inches long. I never knew they swam so fast. I would love to have a whole bunch.

Here is a picture of them. I named them Jose and Cuervo lol. They are pretty hard to get a picture of.

Thanks for the link! They have already calmed down quite a bit since I got them. Both are eating feverishly now. They get a little spooked when I get real close but I am assuming that will go away with time. I also am going to get 2 or three more so I think that will help as well.

Depending on what you house with them, you might not need to feed them at all... If you house them with messy eaters they will get plenty of food... I bought my pictus cat to clean up what my other fish let fall to the bottom!!!
