Quick question ... How often do you change the filter medium in your Eheim canister? I have two pro2 2028's and a 2217 and change the medium once every 2 months ... The 2028's are on a 75 gallon aqarium with 5 Frontosa and the 2217 is on a 75 gallon with various plecos and synodontis cats ...

never change it, but wash it. Ideally, your filter should have enough capacity so that you don't have to wash out the biologically active medium more than once or twice a year. That depends on the size of your fish (you only gave the species) and the number of fish kept. It also depends on the tank (planted, water changes etc). The prefilter pads should be washed out (or, in this case, maybe changed) when the flow rate drops dramatically. About every few months. The same applies to your mechanical filter medium.
BTW: Good choice on the filter brand

i have xp3 and aquaclears on my 125, i've only cleaned my xp3 once a year and do regular changes of filter floss on my 2 aquaclear once every 3-4 months.
just make sure you dont wash all your media at once to save some benefical bacteria.
