should i change the filter pad in my tank my bio load isnt very big with two 6-7 inch fish just wondering how often i should change the filter pad thanks in advance

When you say "pad" I assume you mean mechanical filtration media...

Mechanical filtration media should be cleaned frequently. The number one reason to do so is physical waste that collects in the mechancial media will break down into ammonia. A mature or "cycled" tank will process this into nitrates, but removing it from the system all together will help slow down the nitrate increase...

alright the tank i sdefinetly cycled been up for about 5 months or longer

Then cleaning the mechanical media will help slow down the rate at which your nitrates increase...

While I agree that ^^ is the safe way...

I thoroughly rinse my mechanical media (sponges) under hot tap water a couple of times per month (each)...
