If there is constant bullying in my bichir community,I simply remove the offender and put it in a separate tank without tankmates.Usually peace and harmony is restored in the bichir community once the offending bichir is removed.:):):)

Sounds like a good idea. Problem is, for me, I don't have a 'big enough' tank and space for my bully poly. Certainly I don't wanna keep him in a 10g:nilly:

I'll observe them a bit more. But is it a "usual" personality for them?

I have 2 15" endlies who live in a 225g tank for about 2.5 years now. When I first got them, one was constantly picking on the other (both females) There was no real damage being inflicted other than constant aggression. The non dominant fish ate well ( probably better than the agrgressor) and stayed healthy and active although she was visibly stressed. I treid separation and that did not effect the aggressor's behavior. Over the nest few months the fish finally seem to have come to terms with one another. Although I still see a little nipping here and there there is general harmony in the tank. The lesson I learned is that as long as the non dominant fish is healthy and eating and not being really damaged by the aggressor then eventually they will find their balance and get along. Just male sure your tank is big enough for them and that you have lots of good hiding spots and make sure you feed them regularly and well. Well fed fish are happy fish :)

Ooohh i see i see... Well, the non-dominant one is 'suffering' from a spine ailment/tumor that's why I got worried about the bullying. So far he's okay, his damaged fin (which I'm not sure if due to bullying) somewhat healed a bit. I feel like the bullying is also contributing to his 'deterioration'. I could have separated them but I don't want to put anyone of them in a 10g. It's not 'that' bad actually. Should I do something about the bullying right now? Or just observe some more and like LeoKhomutov has said, make sure enough tanksize, hiding spot, and food (well that's another story, the non-dominant is not able to eat well probably due to that spine problem). Thanks!

I'd say if the bullying continiues and your non dominant fish is suffering and not getting enough to eat, then you will eventually lose that fish unless you separate them. (perhaps a tank divider). I also suspect that your aggressor fish is sensing the ailment or weakness in the other fish and the "survival of the fittest" is working it's evolutuinary magic. By the way, adding some extra aquarium salt to the water helps wounds to heal faster... I'm sure that can't hurt. I always add 1 rounded tbs per 5gal.
Best of luck.

I'll try to find a nice bigger driftwood so there'll be more crevaces to hide in. Sounds better? Coz what i have in there is a small driftwood and a hollow 'car' ornament. Like u guys said, I guess more hiding places should help.

I thought so too. The only noticed the bullying when the sick one turned to worse. I do add salt in it every other water change, only 1 tsp per 10 gal though. I think i'll increase it a bit for now since he's sick.

Thanks everyone for your advice :)

well... the bullying has subsided without me doing anything but adding more salt. But, now he's not moving much. He's still not able to eat. He takes the food and try to "chew" it but he's unable to swallow it and ends up spitting it out. I'm afraid his curvature problem is already taking a toll on him . I hate to ask this question... but... when do you know it is time to put him out of his misery, especially if the problem might be congenital??? me so sad... :(
