I am planning to buy a used one. I know the Fluval 405 cannister filter is the most recent one. How long ago was the 403 made and do you think they will have parts and media for it?

is the 403 the dark brown canister type? if so then i had one in the 1991. soi assume they was released in the late 80's. and spare parts are still available in the local fish shop. if not then definately on the net.

I had a fluval 403 that i bought a couple years back brand new. didnt have problems getting parts. problem was, i needed parts.

In your opinon, it was not a good filter?

fluvals are unreliable and clips tend to break far too easily.if you want a canister external then best go for an Eheim 2217+ THE best canisters on planet earth.

just tore down my 125 with two up and running for at least 6 years don't like the disconnects other than that great filter.parts shoud be avalable threw hagen

I've had a 303 since the early 90's. Once the hose came apart and drained my 40L into the heating duct ( eventually in the furance.) Fixed that with hose clamps. The other major problem is the shut offs never worked, even though I bought it brand new.
Makes servicing the filter a royal pita.
