I am looking at a used tank. acrylic, Has always been filled until February. Stored in the garage. I am being told it is around 18 years old. seems to be in really good shape, with very few scratches. 1/2" thick. Is it to old?
Thanks all
John

I have a glass 30 gallon that I got almost 20 years ago,it was set up for 4 or 5 years, then sat empty until 2 years ago.It has never been re-sealed,and has never leaked.
Since the one you are looking at is accrylic,I'd say go for it.You shouldn't have any problems, and you can get the scratches out of it.

Acrylic is 'sealed' by actually fusing panels together... therefore if it is properly built it is very unlikely it will ever leak...

I would say exceeding the half life of acrylic is the line of "how old is too old"... and I would guess acrylic has a half life of several thousand years...

My sister is using a glass 40 tall of mine that I got in the early 80s… it’s spent about half of it’s life in use and the other half in storage… it has never been resealed…

Although glass and acrylic are completely different materials and one has nothing to do with the other :D

looking forward to seeing it..good luck..!!!

Any Pics?

after messing with it nearly all day, I finally got water in it. Not really happy with the filter set up, but I have been wanting to build a sump, I will do some research and start one soon. The tank has 4 bulk heads in the bottom going to a ocean clear canister. With some small modifications and a riser, should be pretty easy. I will post some pictures of it when I get it where I want it to be seen. Thanks again for the reply's!
