Guys, i know its hard to measure or something but how poisonous would a ray sting be? Would it kill other (bigger) fish when stung? Anybody here ever got stung? Is there also a difference in poison when a ray stings out of defence or offense?

I'm pretty sure if a decent sized ray struck if fish the fish would die. I think their poison doesn't really affect humans as much. I mean dont get me wrong i'm sure getting stung by one would hurt like hell. But i doubt you're going to die. I don't think rays rarely strike for offence. they only ever strike as a defensive move.

one of our members josh got stung by his sting ray. had a bad ass barb stickingo ut. some where on this site is a foto

i would thing it goes in. how else would it poisen you? thats like saying a snake bite wont go in, jus poisen u...

Its like a bee sting alltogether.. ive heard the pain is like a stronger bee sting... the stinger is used the same way as the rays... My ray has 2 huge stingers right now, ones fallin off soon i think! unless shes aFREAK!

get medical help asap if your stung

the poison will hurt like hell

but the infection is worse

and you can say bye bye to the surrounding tissue of the wound

The barb pushes through skin and into the muscle. Do not pull it out. It will just tear everything. Let the Dr's remove it. I dont know of anyone dieing from fw rays, but I wouldnt take any chances.

The bacteria from the spine causes many problems. Even after the spine is out it keeps doing damage to the area, resulting in the loss of tissues.

Its all pretty nasty. I know Josh has been stung before, there were pictures of the wound and everything. Hopefully he doesnt mind me bringing it up again.
