Here.
Hello everyone,

I have a 150 gallon tank and it is being filtered by an FX5. I use to have a power head pushing water/air mixture into the tank, but my black aro does not like much water movement. Now that I took the power head out and repositioned the FX5 nozzle - he is swimming around the tank a lot more. This is why I want to get a regular air pump coupled with an air stone.

From your personal experience, how powerful of an air pump is necessary for my setup? Tetra Whisper has a 100G with dual outputs, but why get that if a 40G single is enough?

I need some personal experience with this matter.

Well I was curious about this as well, not as large scale but same concept. I hooked up a 5 gallon pump to my 30 gallon tank w/ 2 12 inch air stones and it worked fine, the amount of air being pumped out was absolutely less and I could clearly see that but it was still plenty of air being pushed through. My regular pump is a whisper 40 for my 30 gallon and it puts out so a lot. So if a 5 worked in my 30 I don't see why a 40 wouldnt work in your 150. Really I think it depends on how many air stones you plan on using, if its just the one you should be fine, I think since im using 2 it should be fine for you as well..
The other thing is that the directions say to have the pump above your tank...mine sits like 2 feet below the bottom of my tank and still works great. You really shouldnt have a problem..
Sorry I know I wrote a lot, just want to explain it so it related.
