Hello; I agree with the posts about using a water conditioning chemical to make the chlorine OK for fish. "Prime" Is the liquid form of such a chemical. "Safe" is the powder form of the same chemical from the same company, Seachem. There are other water conditioners such as "AquaSafe" made by Tetra.
There is another way to make the water OK for fish if you are lucky enough to have the right conditions. It is important to know what chemicals are used by the water company before trying this. If chlorine only is in the tap water, then the tap water can be stored in containers for a few days. I store my water for four (4) days or more and then can use it with my fish. This method does not work if the tap water has an additional chemical called chloramine. If chloramine is present in the tap water then the storage method will not work and one of the water conditioning chemicals should be used.
good luck
