Give me heads up, saw 2 yesterday. Sorry no pics.

Multipunctatus Synodontis
"Cuckoo Catfish"

Approx. 2-3 inches.

They were asking $90 ea.

Cool looking.

Supposedly - brackish (can stay fresh), max. = 4" looked healthy and plump.

Give me some info please.

Not very rare at all. Maybe at a local shop who doesn't see one very often may charge a bit more but IMO $90 is rediculous, unless it's WC.
Most LFS's around here want $40 for one at most at about 4", and that's CB.
You can find them much cheaper from specialists, those who work mostly in Rift Lake fish, or Tanganyikan fish more specifically.
They max out at about 6-7" and they're not brackish fish either, strictly freshwater but being from Lake Tang they to best in hard water. 7.8+ pH
They're also incredibly shy. Even in larger groups. If you only get a few and your tank is well decorated you'll hardly see them. We were able to watch ours out and about every so often at night.

I had two of them in my cichlid tank and they bred. That was pretty sweet. I had three little babies swimming around. Friggin cutes thing I've seen the the hobby yet.

I bought the adults for $35 each and they were about 3" so $90 is way to much. I have sense seen them for $25 at 3".

I really liked them and one of mine was really social. He would come out and eat food off the top of the water and would swim around a lot. Then other I wouldn't see for days cause she'd be in the rocks hiding.

Their breeding habits are cool too. They lay their eggs in the beds of mouth brooding cichlids and the cichlids pick the catfish eggs up as their own and carry them!!! Cool stuff. My host fish was either a Yellow Lab or Kenyi.

Cool fish. Someday I may purposely try breeding them.

Definitely expensive. Like the others have said, very cool catfish. Very sociable, and it's recommended to get at least 6 because of this. I've never noticed mine to be shy; I have 14 in a 135 and they're never hiding (and b/c of their breeding they've stopped my Malawians from breeding). Not nearly as shy as my S. lucippinis (petricola).

That's the exact opposite for us. Our multipunctatus wouldn't come out, still don't unless it's feeding time, and when we visited a breeder who had about 20 in one of his tanks they all huddled against eachother under the sponge filters in efforts to hide. They didn't move the entire time we were there and when we asked if the was normal he said "yeah, if anyone's in the room".
Not all are the same though. I know we won't be keeping them again soon.
Our S. lucipinnis are very active, day or night. Didn't seem to matter the number since we started with 3 and slowly worked our way up to a few more but they've always been active.

I recently bought a little 1" guy for 19.99 Havent seen him in about 3 months though.......:(

My son says he see's him, but I havent.

Yeah, $90 seems a little high. I saw one at the lfs for $60 for a 2"...not that $60 is the best deal either.

i just bought one for $68 bucks about 3" i was going to ask if we paid to much lol and i see that we did. but i live in the sticks of NY so i guess thats the price we pay to have cool fish :O)
