Has anyone used 2 part epoxy to glue stuff under water. Rubber suction cups have short life so I want to glue the plastic heater holder directly to the tank wall. I used silicone glue before but plastic and glass don't form strong bond and the glue soon fell off.

So my questions are: Is it safe to use epoxy? And will it hold?

Once it dries it will be nearly impossible to remove....and yes, it will be safe....
but....you either need to drain the tank and apply it dry and let it dry....or you need to get the stuff frag and reef guys use to build live rock displays/structures....

They're a bit pricey, but what about "magnetic heater holder"?

No need to drain the whole tank, only 4 inch to glue the holder 2 inch below tank top. I will look into magnetic holder, but doubt it will be strong enough to hold against big fish. On thick glass, my magnetic thermometer got knocked off from time to time.

You can use a few drops of gel type Cyanoacrylate "super glue" it cures under water. It's fish and coral safe.
Wipe any slime off the suction cup and tank before trying to glue on.
