How sensitive are 10cm cuban gars and would a 230 gallon with 2-FX6 and 2 aquaclear 110's be too much flow for them. I thinking about getting 3 or 4 but the only tank I could put them in is my 230 gallon. The water here is hard and PH is most likely in the 8's but I am going to check tomorrow. The substrate is a thin layer of regular natural pea gravel. I think discus are a pain in the butt so should I abandoned my plan on owning cubans as it takes the fun out of the hobby when you have to baby a fish when you have a bunch others to look after

I don't want a project fish but something that will adapt to what I give them.

Gars generally don't like to much flow regardless of their size, since if you put them in static water they don't swim suggesting they just like to sit around (from my experience).

Where are you getting those Cubans? Can they ship to Thailand? You buying them from Chatuchak lol

The flow can be turned down on the filters I mentioned but if the tank is too big and the flow is stll too much can they be put into a floating box in the 230 gallon in which they can't escape with some floating plant in the box for cover until they are settled and a little bigger? When you say sensitive are the worse or better then discus?
Like I said I don't have time to be checking on fish 4 times day as I work over 12hr shifts so they need to be somewhat hardy.

Cubans are a very poor choice if you want "hardy" fish. Discus are hardy in comparison.

You would be much better off with a different type of gar, if you have your heart set on gars.

Gars do not like a lot of water movement - neither do Discus. Period. If you want a low maintenance tank, then get a couple of Floridas, and just have a slow (or no) current, in the tank, and enjoy.

Changed my mind with all the info I am taking in and realized gars aren't a fish for me. Should have been turned off when I knew of somebody owning 20 and I don't think he had any survive. Couldn't be bothered to feed something live as the closest fish store is 100 miles away and my smallest tank is a 150 gallon and I am not about to start constructing floating boxes or buying small tanks for a fish I have never even tried and probably wouldn't even like after owning and having stingrays. Maybe someday I will try a Florida or buy a picture and stick it on one of my tanks.Could have done the latter with a few fish I have tried.

For the person that was asking where the Cuban gars are coming from they are at belowwater in Montreal Canada he had 80 cubans and sounds like they are almost gone.

He's probably getting his Cubans from a guy in Montreal who does ship Asia and Europe. Pm me and I will give you his email
