Well im heading off to ecuador thursday, doing a mission trip thing in the second largest city there. Guayaquil for 12 days. I will have some time to snoop around for some fish and was wondering how i should go about packing them up for the transport back to the States if i should keep and or catch any have them alive the night before i leave?
I have bag buddies i will use to reduce stress, and might even bring an air pump to get as much air as i possibly can in a bag

any suggestions for bag? can i use regular back from my shop? , i will cut them down to make them small so i have more room etc and will pack every fish seperately.

any suggestions?

id do a plastic bin with an internal filter. make sure its watertight and im sure itll have good enough surface agitation. GL

i dont think you will make it through customs

ill have to figure out something when im in ecuador that doesnt take up much space i will just have to keep rebagging everyday, im pretty sure they would taking the fish through my carry one would defeat the purpose of sneaking it with my check ins, technically you need an import export liscence which im not doing thus sneaking them

the internal filter is a good idea i just dont have enough room to bring that sort of stuff with me and pretty sure i will be without electricity where im living

Your best bet would be to try to find some company there that is in the fish exporting business and have them mail the fish to you.

I talked to some people that did a tour of the Amazon where they could catch their own fish, and that's how they did it. The fish exporter will have all the permits, etc. Another bonus with working with the exporter was that he let them go through his stock and buy stuff to add to the order. He had all kinds of stuff there and it was very inexpensive.

There's no way they are going to let you into the country carrying fish. About 15-20 years ago, no problem, but they are really strict now, particularly on plant material...

good point... although i did make it through customs with a huge hunk of dead coral with a sign right next to me that said: "NO exporting of native species whether dead or alive" and a dumb customs manager who apparently is blind.
