Quarantine Tank
I was thinking about getting a large widebar dat but im afraid that once I get it, its colors will change. :irked:

Been told that its stabile but could it de-stabilize after being moved into a new tank?

Anybody ever hear of a large dat de-stabilizing after a move before?:(

DEF heard of it.. but i think all fish have there unstable settling in colors! i mean anytyhing is possible, but after being acclimated for a day or 2 the dat should like sick!!! (coming from a non dat owner) i'd have one if they sold em round here tho!

anybody else?

I think any dat's color can de-stabilize??... when first introduced into a tank anyways. Could be several reasons: stressed, water chemistry, tank environment (dark/light bkgrnd.), aggressive tankmates, etc.? Be sure to check out first, and if you do get, give it a couple days afterwards... if it's from who i think it is, should be okay. i've seen old pics before. GL!

ive read the same things as phulltank wrote.
also, stabile colors can be created with different light and background setting. water quality is most important though.

:D

My experience with Dats is that when they are 2" in size and is already stable they will grow to be stable. If they change colors from time to time these will not, dependant on mood and environment.

I went through 40 Dats to keep the 4 pictured below, well 3 of the 4 are pictured. These guys were stable from 2-3"...

The first picture is current. They are about 8" now. The second picture shows them at around 3" or so.

R1 thanks for the double post :naughty: :D

how long did it take to get up to 8inches?

Here's a pic of an old dat i had... at first it was stabile yellow gold... later on, it turned a little bit on the orangy-like side... (I was told that feeding shrimp or krill will turn your dats this color??.. but i don't know??)... Now I'm talking in terms of color shade/tint wise now, not un-stabile, as in turning dark or black?...

The third pic (w/ gar and endly) was an early pic... notice was more yellow goldish. The fisrt and second pics were of later on... can you see the color diff between them?? :uhoh:

j - thanks for sharing. :)

ive asked about the tank decor, hiding places, water chem., tank size and water change procedure with the widebar im looking into. hopefully i can duplicate its envirnt. and possible get the guy not to de-stabilize!:D

btw p. sharks are sold already to make some room! :irked: (it would have had to be done at some point right?:( )
