How Tall is to Tall?

Tried searching, but couldn't find anything helpful. How tall of a tank is to tall for a Senegal Bichir? Would 31 inches be to tall? What would the max be? Thanks,

For an adult senegal its ok but for a juvinile or subadult it would be kind of deep causing them to expend a lot of energy going up for air that could be used for growth.
Small lower jaws species really only need approx 12-13inches of water to be happy.Most of my bichir tanks measure 48"x18"x13"-Anne
