How the hell do I prevent brown algae? I am over filtered and do weekly 50-60% water changes. My water is crystal clear as well.

Is it due to to what I am feeding my fish which is market shrimp?

Brown algae is tricky. With other algae you can cut down on feeding or adjust how long the lights are on. With brown algae its a bit trickier. You can be doing anything and the algae still wont go away. I have found that maybe the tap water has excess nutrients, so when you clean and do water changes its not going to impact the algae.

I still get brown algae in my tank, and I scrub all the time and do good water changes and it comes back. Theres probably too many silicates and phosphates in the water.

Yeah, it still comes back no matter what

Yeah I hate the crap. Wish my chinese algae eater cleaned it up.

i really dont no / but i thought that was used to keep down parasites
It also helps the pea soup colored water tremendously and helps algae blooms. I don't know if it works on brown algae though.

nah green algae yer my friend set a up a 300 gal panted tank and it was cover in brown algae but he got a ozone and it was gone in 2 day never a hint of it again

but i find the biggest cause of brown algae is overfeeding or by not remove excee pellets from the water
