How thick does glass have to be for certain tank sizes?

I'm going to be building a 400+ gallon aquarium only up to maybe 500 tops. And I'm wondering what size glass id need for a tank this size. I figured id build a 400+ gallon aquarium as I'd have alot of room to play with stock. So I'd rather just get a bunch of room for a change in stock rather than just have room for my current stock. Any ideas on minimal glass thickness. I'm still playing around with dimensions but I know its gonna be huge! My first truly "big" tank. Lol this is gonna be an upgrade from a 55! My dads already not too happy as its gonna take up a full wall of my basement. But he said he'd help me build it as long as I don't get any more big tanks after. Lol I said I'd never have the need to upgrade unless I get a shark! Lmao

Ya I was just playing around with heights and it'll be in the low 30" so I'm gonna guess like 32"-34" tops I might just go with 36" if its cheaper to have a straight up 3' piece. What's cheaper to do 32,34,or 36 inches? Also gallonage might just change. I was thinking and measuring my basement and I have perfect space for a 124"x36"xwhatever height tank I want. But I still haven't even started building anything yet. Currently just playing around with numbers and measurements. But what glass thickness would these sizes require? Once again the heights are 32" high 34" high and 36" high.

Well, my tank that is 30" tall is 7/16 thick. I would say that 3/4 would be fine..even overkill for any of those depths.
 
I wish i could help you on that, but i have 3/4" thick glass on my 215 and it is a stout tank. Must weigh around 450 empty at least. A glass tank of your measurements is gonna weigh over 1k...i hope you have alot of friends to carry it in.
 
Just a suggestion, but I'd go with more than 36" for the depth. It will allow such a better stock if you go with 48" or more.

Oh I'm saying the glass panel for the front of a plywood tank. The glass alone should weigh somewhere around 200 pounds maybe? I'll also need cutouts for the hood. My dimensions I'm most likely sticking with are 124" long 34" wide and 31" high. So 3/4" glass would work?
