How thick should it be? I've seen some pictures where they are almost 5" wide! Does anyone have any pics of how big they should be and what is an underfed ray? Just want to make sure mine is okay fat reserve wise!

Here is my marble when I first got her and her after some power feeding. You can also see my male motoro he has a tail like a broom handle at about 10-12" disk but he is a fatty :)

I would say my female marble was at a healthy weight when I got her but I have fattened her up quite a bit already

I wouldn't say there's a certain size there tail should be...I know they will be fatter with healthy water and and good feedings...

Rays store fat in their tails. So the fatter it is, the more fat storagethey have in reserve. It’s kind of like a camels hump. (fat-not water) But thatdoesn’t mean once its fat, you can stop feeding.. Just is a back up that naturegave them just in case. In the wild, they don’t always get to eat like we feedthem.

So the fatter it is, the better fat base they have and that is an indicationthey are healthy. Since Rays will only store the leftover nutrients and fat intheir tail from what the body doesn’t use when feeding..

Thick tails is a comination of feeding and genetics.... more genetics than anything.
The tail is mostly muscle. Most fat gets stored at the based of the tail on the disc (dorsally ) and around the liver.

When they hit 10 inch mark that when the tail get really fat.
