how to add decor ceramics

I have some ceramic (spelling?) light houses that my mom has to decorate the bathroom.
I was woundering if I could use just any ceramic decor in my tank and how I can make sure it will be ok. Do I need to coat it with anything or clean it with something special?

you should wash it to get off any cleaning residue because it was in the bathroom but after that you should be able to just toss it in

I would be mainly worried if it was painted. Otherwise give it a good cleaning and put it on in!

Yeah it is painted, what kind of paint I do not know. Is there any kind of clear coat I can put on it to seal the paint in so that I can use it?

there is the sweet water that people would use to seal the plywood tanks its pretty multipurposeful I would look into something like that.
